This past weekend, the squad gathered at the Royal Victoria Yacht Club for the first session of the Tera South RTS series. The focus was on sharpening our boat handling skills, with a special emphasis on rig setup for those recently transitioned to the Pro rig. The weekend presented a range of conditions, especially the lighter winds, making it both challenging and rewarding, but the sailors' determination and focus remained high throughout the training.

Key Areas Covered:
Boat Handling: Race Tacks and Gybes
We worked extensively on mastering race tacks and gybes, which are crucial for maintaining speed and control around the racecourse.
Technique Refinement
Technique was a central theme, particularly how to approach and adapt to the ever-changing conditions on the water. Small tweaks in body positioning, sail trim, and timing can make a huge difference.
Adapting to Racing Scenarios
Understanding how to apply these techniques to real race situations is key. We explored how to adapt tacks, gybes, and other boat-handling techniques to different racecourse scenarios.
Risk vs Reward
This weekend, we emphasized the importance of balancing risk and reward in tight situations, helping sailors make better decisions when it matters most with their boat handling.
Forecasting
We worked on integrating weather forecasting into our tactical planning. Knowing how to predict the weather and tides into strategic planning.
The squad showed great resilience and adaptability in the tough conditions. The level of focus and commitment was outstanding!
As we move forward in the Tera South RTS series, we'll continue to build on the skills covered during Weekend 1. There’s plenty more to come, and I’m excited to see the squad grow even stronger over the next sessions.
