For a detailed understanding of what each wind model means - have a look here. AROME and UKMO are typically the most reliable but has a short time frame therefore keep on checking through the weekend.

A good source to check each morning before going afloat is the live wind information from all of the local weather stations which can be found on Windycator and Chimet.

  • This morning Chimet is currently recording NW and 5 gusting 6 knots so we are expecting the breeze to shift around to the left and begin to build from midday onwards.

  • Consistent wind for the afternoon as the wind begins to fill in to the low teens around 1pm from the SSW (210 degrees).

  • Across the models, direction remains consistent for an hour or two with a slight shift back to the right around 3pm which you may get in the last race of the day.

  • We are likely to see cross tide across the course with flow in the Bay moving NE with stronger tidal flow near to top mark, watch your laylines as these may be skewed.

Synoptic Chart

Chart for Friday at midday
Chart for Friday at midday
  • The high pressure system has now moved over the south of the UK causing the light winds we are now experiencing in the morning.

  • Due to the temperature, we are seeing a build in breeze via a sea breeze developing.

  • Remember, high pressure systems = lighter winds and wind travels clockwise hence the change in direction we are seeing in the afternoon.

Tactical Considerations

  • Our last day of racing! This is were regattas can be made or lost. We need to take a dive into the results and see the gaps around our and ask some of the following questions:

    • What are the points difference of those ahead of me and is it doable to climb the rankings?

    • What are the points difference to those behind and do I need to protect?

    • What is may discard and how am I going ot beat that on the water?

  • Consistent breeze for Day 5 from the southerly direction with a large gain feature being cross tide on the course. Keep you eyes out for lay lines and minimise your distance sailed across the course.

Before launching keep an eye on the live weather so we can start to measure patterns to tune our boats for what we will be sailing in.

Good luck for the last day everyone and have a blast!
